“‘What is the use of a book,’ thought Alice, ‘without pictures or conversations?'”
–Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
I am a reader. I am a lover of books. I had a teacher tell me that they should bottle the smell of a bookstore. I happen to agree. There is something magical about books. They bring you to new worlds and open your mind to new people. I love sharing the way books have wormed their way into my heart and life.
I love to read fantasy. It is my go-to genre. But the older I get, the more I am branching out, stretching from a sapling to a wizened old tree. From sci-fi to mystery, young adult to history, horror to romance, I enjoy it all and am happy to discover anything new.
I was once asked (by a different but tolerant teacher) why should we read. Back then, my answer was a ridiculous jumble of non-ideas. Now I have a better answer. I read because I love what books have to teach me. It is a rare day, a rare book, where I wasn’t able to gain something new out of the telling. So, at the end of each review I will have a section exploring one thing I learn from each book. I am interested to see if you learn something different. Let me know!
So, yes. I am a reader. I am a thinker. I am curious. And I love books. Join me in reading, and together we can learn from all sorts of stories. We might even be able to fight some pirates along the way!
